Our story

Passion. Experience. Integrity.

DLP Classic and Sportscars is run by Duncan Peters — and the name is simply his own: Duncan Lewis Peters. It began the way most of these stories do, with a boy who couldn't walk past an old sports car without stopping to look, and never quite grew out of it.

Thirty years of buying, selling, fixing and living with classic and sports cars later, that fascination hasn't faded. Duncan founded DLP because he'd seen how the trade often works — the glossed-over faults, the vague histories, the pressure — and wanted to do it the other way round: tell people exactly what a car is, and let the car do the rest.

We're based in Northumberland, in the heart of North East England, and this is the dealership's home base. But we don't just sell locally — we source and sell classic and sports cars to enthusiasts right across the UK, from Cornwall to the Highlands. The collection is small by design — we'd rather offer ten exceptional cars than a hundred ordinary ones. Every vehicle is personally selected, inspected and presented with the detail and honesty enthusiasts expect, alongside classic car warranties and specialist finance where they help.

Whether you're after a Sunday driver, a track-ready sportscar or a long-term investment, you'll deal with Duncan directly from the first phone call to handover.

Duncan Peters — founder, DLP Classic and Sportscars

With three generations of the family in the trade, Duncan Peters grew up buying and selling classic and sports cars alongside his father, who spent over seventy years doing exactly that. He went on to manage the motors sections for Trinity Mirror, before building his own publishing company known for its quality, from the finest restaurants to beautifully bespoke products. It's an eye for the exceptional that's followed him ever since, in print and in cars alike.

When his father passed away in 2023, it was the push Duncan needed to finally do, full time and on his own terms, what he'd been doing his whole life. At 59, he set up DLP Classic and Sportscars, named for Duncan Lewis Peters, from the family farm in Northumberland.

His wife Tess didn't need convincing. After chatting cars with the owner of a leading car auction company one day, he turned to her and said, "Your husband should set up a business in cars, I've never met anyone with more knowledge than him." Ask Duncan about anything with four wheels or an engine and you'll see exactly what he meant, Tess has had a lot of practice nodding along.
